What to Expect on Sunday Morning

The primary person we aim to please in a public worship service is God. All people have different tastes and preferences for a Sunday Church service; however, we ask that all people put aside their preferences with regard to music, attire, tradition, etc., and place God first. What does He desire from our worship? What honors and brings glory to Him the most? We do our best to regulate our worship by Scripture in order to ensure that God is worshipped the way He rightly deserves.

When you arrive on Sunday morning we can help you find a Sunday School class which starts at 9:45 am. After that, the main service starts at 11 am. We will sing a mix of contemporary songs alongside traditional hymns with the piano. There is no formal or official dress code, in any given service there will be a mixture of ties and coats in the room while others wear jeans and flannel shirts. We practice expository preaching, which simply means we try to make the main point of the Scripture the main point of the sermon. Typically we dismiss service around noon.

Nursery care is provided if needed for children under two years of age. However, as a family-integrated church, we encourage children to participate and be a part of the main morning worship service. We provide activity sheets for the children to follow along at their level, and we encourage parents to teach their children to worship with all of God’s people, regardless of age.

All people from all backgrounds are welcome to visit our services, and will be greeted with a smile! We hope that you will find FBCLW to be a safe environment for you to be yourself as you join other Christians in the worship of The Lord our God in spirit and truth.

Membership

We believe that all followers of Christ Jesus are called to covenantally join themselves to a local body of believers through Church membership. We believe this because the local Church is the primary place where The Lord sanctifies us, and uses us to represent Him in the earth. Because the local Church is so important to the Lord, we believe that membership is of vital significance to the Christian life and should not be taken lightly. Applicants may join FBCLW by salvation and baptism, statement of faith, or transfer of letter from another Southern Baptist Church after completing the membership process.

The membership process at FBC Lake Waccamaw consists of:

  1. Membership Interview: In a low-pressure setting, the prospective member meets with our pastor to provide basic biographical information and recount God’s converting work in his or her life. We also want to be sure that the applicant understands the benefits and responsibilities of membership. Lastly, the prospective member would then sign the statement of faith and church covenant.

  2. Congregational Affirmation: At the next worship gathering our pastor who conducted the interview briefly describes how the applicants, who are desiring to be admitted to membership, have come to know the Lord. Questions are fielded, a vote is taken, and with a majority secured, candidates are admitted into membership.
